Hotel stay Highlights of 2018 -from a few of my favorite destinations

It is a continuing journey for me to be on the lookout for hotel deals, to stay at a brand i've wanted to try out, or experience a city in a unique and or more convenient way based on the hotel I choose. In 2018 I was able to find wonderful and convenient stays in a charming southern city, a lovely and historic Ontario beach town, one of the most dynamic and bustling cities in the UK, and one of the entertainment capitals of the world. New for me was to finally stay at an Andaz property. Staying at the Andaz Savannah offered a comfortable, spacious, cool (with some quirky decor) but not over the top room with a truly comfortable bed and a vibe of relaxation. The onsite bar and restaurant are a great place to unwind, and the location steps away from City Market and the Riverfront offer convenience and ease to wander through sultry Savannah. Tip: Check out the Prohibition Museum a few minutes walk away. For my second ever London trip, a friend and I decided a budget property

Late summer long weekend in Savannah

We are weeks into Autumn, but today feels like a sweltering summer day in Southern Ontario. The heat took me back to my recent 3 night break (second visit so far) to sweet Savannah, Georgia to take advantage of a super flight sale. Here is a quick roundup of some of my highlights of this compact, gorgeous and welcoming Southern city Streets of Savannah Georgia surrounded by Spanish Moss I arrived on the Sunday of the Labour Day long weekend, so super hotels were quite affordable after that first night as most people were headed home either on the Sunday or Monday. This brought me to the decision of switching hotels during the stay (I do this regularly anyway to experience either different areas of a city or different hotel vibes and styles - or for cost savings) My favorite was definitely the Andaz Savannah located just a stone's throw from both lively City Market (full of shops, bars and restaurants) in one direction and the cobblestoned Riverfront in the other. It'

Hotel Haven - Delta Hotels by Marriott Toronto

Back in the early spring I enjoyed a one night getaway to Toronto. I love that such a vibrant big city is only about an hour drive from where I live. I had been wanting to check out Ripley's Aquarium of Canada and maybe do a bit of shopping. So my hotel of choice was the Delta by Marriott in Downtown Toronto . It was classy, comfortable and spacious and located near some of near the best attractions in one of Canada's great cities. Especially convenient is the Roger's Centre to catch the Toronto Blue Jays in action, or the Air Canada Centre for the Raptors, Leafs or a concert. For my Friday evening, I strolled about 3 minutes over to Ripley's Aquarium and had a delightful time exploring this gem of an attraction. There were fewer crowds and the displays were wonderful and enchanting, especially the Jelly Fish exhibit. Back at the hotel, for an evening drink or two I headed to the onsite Char No. 5 whiskey bar . Beautifully set up with knowledgeable and friendly bar s

Pretty Puerto Plata - A casual and cozy all inclusive getaway

It has already been a month since I returned from a winter break from pretty Puerto Plata . A challenging month at home awaited my return, but I look back now and grateful for the enjoyable and leisurely time I had at the Viva Wyndham V Heavens. Mid January is a great time of year to depart for an all inclusive getaway. The days are still so short, dark melancholy mornings and dark by 5 pm. So it was a super bonus to arrive to a brilliant blue sunny day in Puerto Plata. The drive from the airport was only 25 minutes and it was scenic, lots of local roadside shops and homes, with a very lush landscape. It is a pretty place.   Viva Wyndham V Heavens is located in Playa Dorada, a golf course community amongst several other all inclusives. The hotel has a clean and spacious lobby and you are greeted by the entertainment teams theme song and punch in a champagne flute. I felt welcome! My Bliss room was decent in size (and much cheaper for the solo traveler), needed some TLC but good v

Hotel Haven - Hotel EMC2, Autograph Collection - Chicago

In the late fall of last year, still with a few vacation days and feeling restless I was randomly looking for hotel travel deals for a very quick getaway close by air, and I stumbled upon this appealing, interesting and just plain cool art meets science themed hotel that peaked my curious mind. Since it was available for a steal in later November (pre Thanksgiving and before the height of holiday season), I decided Chicago (always wonderful to visit) would be my couple of cool nights getaway and I was excited to stay at the recently opened Hotel EMC2 part of the Marriott AutographCollection brand . A glimpse of the eclectic Hotel EMC2 Vibe – Creative boutique style hotel with art & science themed d├ęcor, hip and hi tech (there are two dapper Robots Leo & Cleo on site - they can make deliveries to your room!) Friendly service and cool, comfortable and unique rooms with excellent amenities on site including meeting spaces and a unique restaurant & loun
